This evening we are screening two shorts within the theme, with two different perspectives.
Where Are My Children? (1916) is an old anti-abortion film. While prosecuting a doctor for the death of a client after an abortion, the prosecutor discovers that his wife helped her friends and her maid’s daughter obtain and pay for abortions from the doctor, and suspicion arises that she herself had an abortion too.
In Lili Alone (2021) we see Lili, a young mother, living with her gambling-addicted husband in a remote part of Sichuan. Lonely and poor, she moves to the city in an attempt to earn enough money to save her dying father.
This film is part of our Modern Classics in October with the theme abortion and (unwanted) pregnany.
