Clay animation film about the peculiar relationship between two pen pals: eight-year-old Australian girl Mary and old New York nag Max.

Mary is a lonely Australian girl with big glasses. She finds a pen pal in Max, an old loner from New York. Max suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, which means he lacks the ability to fully empathize. In a little book, he keeps facial expressions with their meanings, because he himself cannot gauge what people are feeling.

Director Adam Elliot won an Oscar in 2004 for his short animated film Harvie Krumpet. During the 26th edition of the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival this clay animation was awarded the Silver Scream Award, the audience prize of the festival.
