Blue Monday is a name given to a day in January (typically the third Monday of the month) claimed to be the most depressing day of the year. We’re hosting a film programme with some of the bluest (in a literal sense) films we know in order to overcome this winter depression. 3 Days after Blue Monday we will be screening a series of experimental blue shorts.

An endless blue wave, a bright blue screen with only sounds to be heard, the above avant-garde/filmmakers have experimented with the color blue in different ways. This filmprogramme is an experiment in itself, in the way that is has been curated by color, instead of a theme. The only thing that ties these shorts together is their literal blueness. The shorts:

The Perfect Wave – Nicolas Provost

A method for blue logic – Riley Harmon

Blues – Larry Gottheim

Seascape – Michael Kuchar

Conversations – Magdalena Orellana

Black ice – Stan Brakhage (16mm)

Vision of Fire Tree – Stan Brakhage (16mm)

Blue Movie – Michael Morris

In Us, Roots – G. Anthony Svatek
