The world is a mysterious place when seen through the eyes of an animal. Polish legend Jerzy Skolimowski delivers a visually experimental complement to Robert Bresson’s 1966 black-and-white drama “Au Hasard Balthazar. ‘EO’ won the 2022 Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
EO (“eee-ohhh”), a gray donkey with melancholy eyes, meets both good and bad people on his life path through contemporary Poland and Italy. He undergoes joy and pain, the randomness of the wheel of fortune, turning his happiness into disaster and then his despair into an unexpected windfall. But unlike man, he never loses his innocence.
