Starting off with an opening night on Wednesday September 22nd, Cineforum will continue for two days on the 23rd and 24th of September, during which ten screenings will open the discussion to various themes concerning European politics.
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd | 19:30 | CINEFORUM OPENING NIGHTFour well-to-do middle-aged friends gather in a villa to collectively eat themselves to death. A nauseatingly decadent suicide attempt, complemented by a trio of prostitutes and a spontaneously invited school teacher. La Grande Bouffe will be screened on the opening night of Cineforum Festival. The opening night will include a free drink for everyone attending La Grande Bouffe. Starting at 18:00, there will be a catering by Gebakken Lucht and DJ Sjaak will play her smoothest records for us after the film. Come and see!

She doesn’t manage to adapt to this peaceful, everyday life, she doesn’t lose her piercing desire to fly…

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 24th | 16:25 | CINEFORUMIn 2015, Syrian artist Amel Alzakout took the bold decision to make the crossing to Europe with a people smuggler. Just before reaching the coast of Lesbos, the overcrowded boat started sinking. The entire film is comprised of dizzying footage as Alzakout shoots from the water. In nearly abstract close-ups of people in the water waiting to be rescued, we can just barely make out fluorescent orange life jackets, dangling legs, tiny feet in white sneakers, a bobbing pack of cigarettes, life preservers.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 24th | 21:00 | CINEFORUMThe idealistic young theater director Mariana works on an open-air play based on the events of the time. It becomes a nerve-racking process, in which she has to deal with extras don't want to play with Roma actors, and with an eloquent representative of the city council who tries to strip the play of its sharp edges. The present is closer to the past than Mariana would like.
